Implication for Differing communication Formats.

A reflection exercise based on a case study. How did your interpretation of the message change from one modality to the next? The tone in the email sounded rude while reading in my mind, and I found myself making unpleasant comments to myself, such as “I am tired and exhausted” and “Can't this wait till tomorrow?”. And there was no feedback on my comments. Also, the text formatting and paragraphing were just so boring to read, and the purpose of the email was embedded somewhere in the text lines.  I felt the tone was calmer in the audio, and the request sounded like I could put in some effort to get over the data needed. This also allowed me to get to this at a time when I was not busy. While in the face-to-face communication, my request got my full attention as I looked at the person speaking. I believe I could...

A personal event gone bad!

Recently, I was involved in planning an event for a friend. The event was agreed to be implemented almost six months before the event. There were many stakeholders involved in getting a date for the event. The date was eventually chosen based on her elder brother’s availability. With the date set, many event components had to be taken care of. Getting a space, the food menu, who would be in charge of buying, cooking, and serving the food, logistics for the chairs and tables, decoration team, graphics team, and tech teams to handle microphones, speakers, and switch on generators should electricity be an issue. My area has many local dishes, and the goal was to capture as much of the variety of local dishes as possible. Decisions around setting up the hall, where guests would sit, where the food tables would be mounted, and even the entire day’s program was still to be decided upon, as well as wrap-up and cleaning. Initially, a budget was set for the event, and family members were tasked...

Five learning technologies and implications for training designs.

Image
Learning Management System (LMS). A learning management system (LMS) refers to a technology used to automate the administration, development, and delivery of training programs. LMSs can provide employees, managers, and trainers with the systems support to manage, deliver, and track learning activities. Some features of LMS include tracking and reporting learners’ progress, authoring skills for consistent content creation, discussion boards for interaction and trainer feedback, being able to assess learners, providing a great deal of personalization, and supporting professional development. LMS is a great tool for integrating employee training with all aspects of the human resource function (e.g., performance evaluation, human resource planning) to determine training cost and impact on business goals. It provides a central system for managing all employee's learning activities, tracking compliance, and measuring individual and team performance.   The long-term impl...

Training Needs Assessment in Americares

Conducting a training needs assessment with a focus on the following:  1) What stakeholders would you want to make sure to get buy-in from? Americares is a global health nonprofit organization that aims to save lives and improve people's health in vulnerable communities. Its principal activities are to respond to emergency situations caused by natural disasters, war, and health epidemics. The emergency response may lead to a long-term recovery program that may lead to the creation of an organizational country presence. To conduct an organizational country-level training program improving specific health capacities within a community, stakeholders involved would be the top-level leadership team, the country directors, key employees occupying the roles in which the training would be implemented for or by, employees managers, finance headquarters team, technical unit experts or SMEs, and other headquarter roles that directly work with the country offices. It will be beneficial to have...
